Eating and Living

I had a dream last night, of which I have vague recollections of images of Mr. Rogers, and a phrase that I cannot forget. I have learned to take notice of things in dreams that seem etched into my mind. Perhaps they were in my dream for a reason. Well, I woke up with this phrase so clear that I could repeat it over and over. So I thought I’d share it with you, since it can have such widespread implications.

Eat and live as though you will be doing both for a very long time.

It may seem simple at first, but let’s dig a little deeper.

Eat

If my food choices today will affect my future, I should be thoughtful in my meals. This concept was particularly encouraging for me as I begin my fourth week on the Body Ecology Diet. (book) It has been a struggle sometimes, like when I discovered that the cranberries I was eating had been sweetened with sugar. This was enough to cause some return of my symptoms. As I thought about eating for the long run, I realized that sticking to this diet will be rewarded in the future in the form of protection against cancer, energy to care for my family, future childen having better protection against ASD. My mother in law is 71 and still helps us stack wood, walks everyday, and is free from debilitating health problems. She ate for her future. I am trying desperately to grab on to this concept. YHVH promises to bless us with health for our obedience, but we also need to be eating real wholesome food. Our bodies simply cannot tolerate fake food. We already addressed GMOs in a previous post. It is also important to address gluttony, particularly when we regularly indulge in sweets and junk that provide nothing our bodies can actually use. I did this for years and I am now paying the price with candida symptoms. Praise YHVH that He cares for His people! He showed me that the answers are in the food I put in my mouth. I am enjoying symptom free days, but yes, it comes with sacrifice. I cannot sneak chocolate chips or indulge in a brownie or even have a fruit smoothie, and I’m eating lots of fermented foods. But, the way I’m eating now, I can continue to enjoy good health for a long time.

Live

If I’m going to be on the planet for a long time, I want to minimize my regrets. The best way I know to do this is to follow the principles found in Torah. If I can truly learn to love and value the people around me, my relationship with them will have few regrets. If I treat my fellow man fairly, I will not be plagued with guilt. If I worship my Creator as He commands, I will not live in fear of punishment. If I learn to trust instead of worry, my body will benefit from much less stress. If I enjoy my life and smile often, it will bring health to my body. YHVH truly designed us to enjoy our lives to the fullest and eat for the long run.

I pray that each of you will have a long healthy life filled to the brim with happy relationships, healthy bodies, and an amazing relationship with your Creator!

Eat and live as though you will be doing both for a very long time.

  1. Thank you for your honestly and your support. We are not trying as hard as we could in our house but we have come a LONG way from where we were! When coming into torah everything—even food took on a huge new meaning. Life is a gift and we can’t do a work for our Abba in sick unhealthy bodies!

    1. Amen to that, Abbey! It’s definitely a journey taken one step at a time. Yah works on certain areas when we are ready, and other issues wait their turn. 🙂

  2. Thank you for sharing! My family and I are reading and researching so we can strive to eat healthier. We are throwing out dairy, gluten, and coffee and minimizing sugar. Also incorporating more fresh vegis and fruits. We have a long way to go however I am confident we’ll get there with Yah’s help and direction. I went to the Ecology Body website…FANTASTIC!!! Just what my family and I need!! Thank you SO much for sharing!!

    Blessings and Shalom!:)

    1. Many blessings to you on this journey, Jamileh! I’m a month in now, and while some days are hard, I am thrilled to be rid of some symptoms, like serious sugar cravings. One step at a time. 🙂

  3. I looked up the body ecology diet that you recommend here. Do you still recommend it, do you think it is a good product? I want to and need to go on this but the price is making me hesitant.

    1. I think it is a good diet for short term to help you heal. I stayed on it for about two months and found it tremendously helpful, but I couldn’t stay on it long term. I am currently doing my best on Trim Healthy Mama, and find it much more sustainable. I’m not sure if Trim Healthy Mama would give the same results as Body ecology as far as dealing with health issues like autism, etc. The biggest thing for me has been getting off the sugar, and keeping my carbs more in balance with the fats and proteins. Fermented foods added to the diet are also very beneficial. Oh, and I did Body ecology with nothing more than the book, which I paid less than $10 for. I didn’t use any of the special ingredients. I’m not sure if my answer was helpful or not, lol, but I hope you feel better soon!
