My third son came to me the other day to share how he has been praying lately, and I was very encouraged by it. Not only was it a blessing to hear that he was proactively seeking Yah and trying to be consistent in talking to Him, but he also had some great ideas. I want to share them with you today, and I hope they will not only help you, but perhaps also give you some ideas when your children ask for help with prayer.
He set up a routine of prayer for morning, and one for evening.
Morning Prayer Routine
- Thank you for giving us another day, and that we are all still breathing.
- Thank you for a roof over my head, food and water, and a family that cares for me.
- Thank you that our animals are doing good.
- Thank you for being a good God.
Evening Prayer Routine
- I ask Him to show me what I did wrong today.
- I ask for forgiveness for my sins, and try to do better.
- I ask Him to show me how I can do better.
- Thank you for taking care of us and watching over us.
Tips for teaching prayer
- Explain words like thankfulness, praise, repentance, and forgiveness.
- Create a written list together, similar to what my son did. Younger children can draw pictures, or create a collage of what they are thankful for.
- Pray with them as they learn.
- Encourage them to pray to Yah on their own as well.
- Teach that it’s a conversation with your Heavenly Father, and He wants to hear from you.
I hope my son’s prayer routine has been helpful to you and your family as you seek the Father daily together. Consider subscribing to my email list where you will have access to my resource library. It includes checklists and printables such as a repentance checklist to help you.
